Fair Pay Private Practice Model for Mental Health Clinicians: $80+ Per Session, Built for Therapist Ownership

Where therapists finally keep what they earn—no less than $80 per session, ever. Because clinical care should pay clinicians fairly, not creatively repackage their value.

Barbara Adika is a licensed clinical mental health counseling professional and board-approved clinical supervisor in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. She provides clinical supervision and professional development support for counselors at all stages of training and licensure.

Since 2019, Barbara has supported more than 60 mental health professionals, including graduate interns, provisionally licensed counselors, and independently licensed clinicians, helping them develop sustainable careers in private practice and clinical work.

She is the founder of Adika Counseling, which evolved in 2026 into the Psychotherapy and Behavioral Health Network—a clinician-focused infrastructure designed to connect therapists with clients across the DC Metro area while supporting ethical, independent practice growth.

My Mission: Fair Compensation for Therapists

Barbara’s work is grounded in addressing a persistent problem in private practice contracting: therapists often receive reimbursement structures that do not reflect the true value of clinical services or the actual revenue collected from insurance and out-of-pocket payments.

The Psychotherapy and Behavioral Health Network was built to change that.

This model ensures:

  • Therapists earn no less than $80 per clinical session

  • Reimbursement is transparent and directly tied to actual collections

  • Clinicians maintain ownership of their practice and income streams

  • Administrative burdens are significantly reduced through structured support

Private Practice Support Model

Therapists in the network operate as independent business owners while receiving full practice infrastructure support, including:

Insurance & Financial Setup

  • Insurance credentialing and contracting

  • Claims management and submission support

  • Insurance eligibility verification before sessions

  • Payment processing and client ledger management

Business Formation & Compliance

  • Business entity setup in DC, MD, and VA

  • Accounting and tax preparation coordination

  • Monthly bookkeeping systems

  • SEP IRA and self-employed retirement planning support

Marketing & Practice Growth

  • Psychology Today profile setup and management

  • Website and clinician page development

  • Practice branding and online visibility support

A Different Kind of Private Practice

Unlike traditional group practice models, this structure is designed so that:

  • Therapists retain clinical and business ownership

  • Insurance payments go directly to clinicians

  • Contractors are compensated transparently based on services provided

  • Administrative systems support—not exploit—clinical labor

Barbara acts as a contractor supporting independent practices, not as an employer controlling clinician earnings.

Growth Opportunities

This model also creates long-term professional expansion pathways, including:

  • Supervisory roles for experienced clinicians

  • The ability to hire and manage other therapists

  • Expansion into fully independent group practices

  • Increased earning potential without losing autonomy
