Teenagers and adults work with me to process and work toward decreasing, managing or eliminating the intensity, frequency and/or duration of worry, sadness, emotional neglect and abandonment, identity exploration and development, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, lack of interest and pleasure in doing things, rumination, intrusive thoughts, difficult transitions and more. I am skilled in administering assessments, diagnosis and collaborating with clients to develop and implement a treatment plan to reduce or eliminate anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, OCD-tendencies, bipolar disorder and more. We will discuss the absence of a parent, the pressures of caretaking, the nuances of ones identity including privilege and oppression etc., the stress of balancing responsibilities, grief and loss (along with the fear of it), difficulty in interpersonal relationships, and more. My work is also focused on culture (race, gender, sexuality, age, ethnicity, religion, spirituality, etc.) and how it informs personal identity.
My education and training have equipped me to apply psychological knowledge and counseling approaches to the treatment of offender-patients. Our collaborative relationship and clinical work will include learning to better understand emotions, develop effective communication through actively listening and intentionally responding (especially while in distress), define stressors and problems, and implement effective solutions for day-to-day challenges, all while recognizing and building upon existing strengths and managing trauma.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and the foundations of attachment theory to process trauma and its effects, to identify specific problems or issues in your daily life, to develop awareness of unproductive thought patterns and how they can impact the day-to-day, to identify and reframe negative thoughts, and to learn and implement new behaviors.
I am a compassionate therapist who simultaneously validates and challenges my clients. I remain curious and non-judgmental as I believe that all our thoughts, behaviors and feelings have a reason behind them. I am engaged, responsive, energetic, direct, and warm to all of my clients.
I earned my masters in Forensic psychology & Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am certified by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists to provide mental health counseling under clinical supervision
