Adults from various walks of life and varied life experiences work with me to learn the psychological impact of their identity experiences, family-of-origin relationships, navigating intergenerational living arrangements and patterns of guilt, shame, secrecy and lack of emotional safety. Through our together, you may gain strategies to improve cognitive, emotional, behavioral and relational functioning. these strategies may help alleviate, manage or eliminate symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD tendencies, PMDD, bipolar disorder, ADHD and other clinical diagnoses.
I provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a multitude of symptoms and experiences related to sadness, low self-esteem, identity exploration, depression, anger, grief, neglect and abandonment, frequent worry, difficulty with relationships, shame and/or guilt and more. My expertise and interests also includes working with people impacted–directly or indirectly by legal, judicial, correctional, community, clinical, and administrative systems.
Therapy sessions with me might include psychoeducation about your diagnosis and the impact of your identified experiences and symptoms. We will work to identify affect/mood modulation skills, safety skills, stress-management, and mindfulness skills and engage in confidence and assertiveness training. Therapy will also introduce the cognitive triad (relationships between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), behavioral techniques, and behavior modification. We will work together to process any trauma, eliminate or alleviate symptoms, and more.
In supporting my clients, I work from attachment frameworks, which look at met and met emotional needs during once early life, and how that affects current relationship, interactions. Regarding these current interactions, then I pull from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), which works with clients to identify their values and needs, make a commitment towards whatever goals they might have and work towards accepting limitations. Additionally, I incorporate dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), which helps clients manage distress, communicate effectively and regulate emotions. I take a trauma informed approach, which means that as we are exploring one's life's experiences and implementing strategies, we do so within the context of addressing past trauma and how it currently informs the nervous system's responses and reactions.
I provide a direct, compassionate, flexible, and collaborative approach, which includes, but is not limited to cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational questioning principles.
I am providing mental health counseling under the clinical supervision. I earned my masters in Forensic Psychology and Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am certified by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists to provide mental health counseling under clinical supervision
