Rebeca Yohros, LGPC

Accepting new clients.

Must reside in Maryland for virtual sessions. Accepts United HealthCare, Cigna/EverNorth and CareFirst/Anthem/BlueCross and BlueShield.

I specialize in supporting individuals through relational trauma, executive functioning including ADHD, attachment issues, PTSD, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression and mood disorders. As an EMDR trainee, I offer specialized support for clients dealing with trauma and its complex effects. As I believe strongly in considering how social, cultural, and biological factors affect once mental health, I work with teenage and adult clients across the spectrum of gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, developmental stage or age, and race. More specifically, I consider the ways in which mental health diagnosis and the previously mentioned factors can impact how one perceives themselves, others or their experiences, is triggered by, and copes with daily life stressors related to transitions, relationships, education or work, self perception, patterns related to eating or sleeping, taking care of oneself, and overall functioning which includes procrastination, organisation, and prioritisation.

I’m committed to providing compassionate, personalized care. In my first session with clients, we take an in-depth look at past and ongoing patterns in cognitive processing or thinking, emotional response or reaction, and behaviour. In this first session, we also look at the individuals psychological, social, and biological history. This helps in identifying support, mental health diagnosis, and working towards an overall and comprehensive treatment plan. My therapeutic process also involves collaborating with my clients to create a dynamic treatment plan which is tailored specifically to that client, an overall lifestyle.

Our collaborative therapeutic process is guided by culturally focused, trauma focused and solution oriented therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT) which encompasses dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), attachment and relational therapy, Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR trained), motivational interviewing and behavioral based therapies. Overall, these approaches allow us to explore, process, understand and at times, resolve challenges from the past and move towards the clients desired future. This approach allows my clients to understand the genesis of their patterns and make conscious choices for the future. It is a compassionate way for them to learn that what may appear to them to be unhealthy, or actually their brains way of adopting strategies in order to survive or navigate an overwhelming experience or relationship from the past. My approach with clients is warm, compassionate, supportive, curious, accepting, and a times I challenge my clients to grow out of what may feel comfortable or even familiar.
